Find Georgia tourism information for destinations throughout the state. From the Georgia coast with majestic scenery, tidal marshlands and swamps to the Mountains region blessed with breathtaking scenery, pure lakes and roaring rivers to the Historic South with a rich musical and cultural heritage, bountiful agriculture and ancient landmarks, you're sure to have the perfect family vacation or romantic getaway.Although small, Georgia is a country that is rich in culture, has a fascinating history and is home to some of the most glorious landscapes anywhere in Eurasia. The high snow-capped Caucasus mountains descend to the subtropical Black Sea coast; fertile valleys and gushing rivers give way to dramatic semi-desert. Numerous ancient cave towns and fortresses, towers and churches will catch your eye as you travel around the country. Delicious wine and food will enhance your experience.
The best views are from the top of the ruined Narikala citadel. Below you are the rusting tin roofs of the old town, the asparagus-coloured River Mtkvari snaking through it. On the outskirts of the city, grey Soviet-era apartment blocks poke up from the hills like rows of rotten teeth. To your left is the imposing 20-metre high aluminium statue of Mother Georgia: in one hand she carries a cup of wine, in the other a sword, which tells you pretty much all you need to know about this place. The Georgians' reputation for fighting is matched only by their reputation for feasting and hospitality.
